P-38 F/G Lightning

My wife is getting me a 1/48 P-38 F/G Lightning!
Not looking forward becoming a year older but I get this model out of it.

Its not so bad, I like hotdogs, lol.
My daughter and I are December. Her's is 15th and mine 21st.
Turning 58 has a plus— one more day closer to saying adios to Harris County.

"That is not your birthday gift!" My wife said in a sweet but sternly voice.
Now I'm feeling like a kid who got caught peaking into his present.
"I wanted to wrap it for you". She said
Back in the box everything goes to not see the light of day until... well, Christmas eve. That could be the one I choose to open.

Who's been a naughty boy then !! You should have learnt by now that you unwrap it carefully, take out the instructions so you can get yourself set up for the build, wrap it all back up and no-one is the wiser. Wife happy as she gets to wrap it up and surprise you and your happy because in your mind you have already started the build. Everybody wins.

The reviews I've watched, like Andy from Andy's Hobbies was very happy with the build. It seems like it will be a fun build with 54 steps.

The Lightning is on hold, unfortunately. I went to the ER yesterday and was diagnosed with the Type-A flu.
So I got that as a surprise for Christmas. In my spirit of sharing I gave it to my wife too.

The Lightning is on hold, unfortunately. I went to the ER yesterday and was diagnosed with the Type-A flu.
So I got that as a surprise for Christmas. In my spirit of sharing I gave it to my wife too.

You take it steady, stay warm, rest, lots of fluids. Same advice to the wife and both of you, wishing you a speedy recovery and a bright and peaceful New Year.

Finally out of the hospital and back on the bench.

Christmas day it hit me out of nowhere, I just started feeling awful. I went to the ER on the 26th and diagnosed with the flu. Three days later I was back at the ER and the flu had cause pneumonia in the lungs. This time I was admitted and had a 4 day stay at a great hospital, Houston Methodist Hospital.

About 2-3 years ago I was diagnosed with Interstatial Lung Disease, after months of testing (including cancer testing).
Having pneumonia in the lungs can be a dangerous parnter to have with ILD.

So now it is time to really look at retirement in a more serious light.
No more checking on parked cars in the dark, dealing with drunks, stolen property, etc... Nope. I think it's time to hang it up.

But anyway, on to the good stuff! I have officially started on the P-38.
The detail and the way this plane is put together is wonderful. There is minimal sanding or gaps in the build.
I have watched a few more videos with this build and it is a top-notch build.

Glad to hear that you're recovered now and back at the bench. It's always a worrying time when you're sick enough to end up in hospital.

I missed your report and so am glad that you are home and able to return to your bench. However make sure that you care for your lungs, as so much of our hobby has the potential to harm us.

Would you believe that a Breast Cancer guide for patients and loved ones that I was given and has been superb in explaining and guiding us through this journey, is published by the John Hopkins medicine org. Nothing published here is of the same user friendly standard.

Here is hoping you kick the pneumonia fully and keep up the modelling Therapy.

Hairspray fiasco:
Since I dont have chipping fluid I decided to try hairspray. My first attempt at hairspray chipping was a complete failure.
I believe it came out of the can too heavy.
I didn't think too much about the volume and carried on.
After letting the spray dry I applied the first color to chip ‐ Vallejo Brown Violet. I noticed the paint felt somewhat tacky even after letting the paint dry.
Using a stiff brush to chip I noticed the paint was balling up into tiny balls of chipped paint.
Even though I was happy with the look I was concerned with the paint debris littering the wings.
So the best course of action was to wash it all off and retry.
I think for this next application I'll need to decanter some spray into a dosing cup and lightly apply the hairspray.
