Pappy's Bird " LucyBelle"

Little bit more :)

Thought I would take a little time an improve the look of the cowl fins . The kit gives the option of open or closed ,I of course want them open ,but they come moulded with webs between the fins which dont look right ,so I set too and removed the webs .

DSCF5108.jpg

At the same time I sanded at the back of the fin to thin them down a bit ,still more to go here ,but you get the idea ...

DSCF5107.jpg

With most of the work done on them I did a dry fit ....looks better to me :)

Got a little more sanding to do ,but its easier to do now they are fixed to the cowling ,they were getting a bit fragile !.

Thanks for looking.

Chris.

the cowl fins look a lot better with out the webs. I hope it wasn't too hard to remove them

Thanks DB , A sharp blade and some wet & dry does the job ,its not difficult ,and makes for a simple improvement ;)

Chris.

Looks great Chris! Huge improvement with the cowl flaps. The cloth belts sure kick up the interior. You're really flying along with this! :D

Jeff & Scott ,Thanks guys :)

I got some primer on and everything looked good :) ...so I decided to lay down a preshade for the White and light Blue ,but things were going so well I just kept going ! Before I knew it the bird was painted

Looks a bit dark with the Klear on ,but once the decals go on I will be fading everything and the matt coat will lighten it further .
The engine & cowl are only set on for the pics at the minute .

Thanks for looking.

Chris.

That looks fantastic Chris!! No more bodywork after primer? Very impressive my friend!! Jason (JMac) was right, the tri-colour scheme is a real nice choice for this plane! If I may be so bold Chris, what colours did you use on it? :)

;D (me being right) is bound to happen once in a while... ;D

I totally agree with F.T. Looks sharp, a real nice change from all the GSB corsairs you see all the time. Excellent work as usual Chris.

Thanks Jeff ,I got lucky I guess :)

Jason ...Thanks again mate :) It will look a lot different once the decals are on and the fading starts :)

Not bold at all ....ask away ! The paint used was all Tamiya this time ,tinned with cellulose .

XF 17 Sea Blue
XF 18 Medium Blue .
XF 02 Flat White .

Chris.

I'm surprised you thin your Tamiya with cellulose. What's the advantage / reason (rather than using Tamiya's thinner or IPA)?

Jason ....its cheaper ;D You can buy 5ltrs of cellulose here for around £5-£6 5ltrs lasts a mighty long time ,you can also thin enamels with it and clean out your Airbrush with it ...so it makes sense , How much is a small bottle of Tammy thinners ?

Chris.

Ok, just wondering. First I heard of using it...

Does the cellulose produce a lot of fumes? Is it difficult to use? Is it aggressive, in terms of attacking the plastic?

Sorry for all the questions.

By golly, I happen to have all three of those colours on hand. As well as a Hase 1/48 Corsair kit! I think December might be a good month for a Corsair build. May have to lay in some of those belts though.

Thanks for the info Chris ;)

No problem with the questions Jason ,I always help if I can .

Fumes ....it will only produce a lot of fumes if you have the pressure up and spraying out a lot of paint ,but I wear a mask anyway and have extraction ....wouldnt really recommend using it in the house tho ,my workshop is seperate from the house so no one complains about the smell ;D

Its not difficult at all to use ,in fact it stops the paint drying on the needle so quick ,I dont need to keep stopping to clear the tip /needle .
Its not aggressive if used correctly ,paint should be applied in light coats and therefore flashes off ( surface dries ) very fast so the cellulose evapourates quickly and does no harm at all to the plastic or glues ,I have certainly never had a problem with it most of the builds you see of mine are all painted using cellulose and I do know a number of what I would class as top modellers using it too .

So ,if you dont mind the smell of it ,give it a try .

Jeff ,good stuff ;D I will look forward to that ;D ;D

Chris,
Jason and yourself are just unstoppable!
Looks fantastic.

While there are two major brands of "Tippex" or
"White Out" they call it here in the states, for those who
may not know what we are using here.
I believe they use different solvents, the brand you use
smells like what? I know strange question and we hardly
know each other. Do or can you thin it?

Thanks Peppy ,

I couldnt really say what it smells like ? dont smell like anything else I know off !!But I'd say it is possibly solvent based ?

Here is the exact one I use if anyone wants to google it ....
