Hi folks :)

Im back with another aircraft build . I have to get this one started for a Group Build over on Robs site (Modelers Social Club ) ,The GB is 'North Africa ' So I have chosen to do a Spitfire piloted by an American Ace Lt. Vic Cabas 4th FS/52nd Fighter Group. This aircraft was stationed in Tunisia in April 1943 ,and to be honest it will be nice to do a Spitfire in a desert camo for a change :)

This is the aircraft i'll be building ....

And this is the kit Im using .....

I will be making a start on it tomorrow ,so I hope you'll join me for this one ,should be a fun build :)

Thanks for looking.

Man, The Spitfire is one sweet looking plane!!
I just got back into modeling with the idea of doing 1:32 WW2 aircraft but was quite intimidated by some of the stuff I see the guys doing out there (pricey too!). So………I kind of fell backwards into some cheap 1:35 armor & am honing my skills on that before I tackle any planes.
Reviewing what’s out there in terms of availability and prices; I’m thinking 1:48 is the way to go.
I’ll be following this thread with keen interest and hope to pick up some good tips!!
Thanks!
WF…..

Sweetness! Seldom do I see Spitfires modeled in US markings - this will be a treat! ;D

Nice to have you along guys :)

Jim ,you're too kind ,nice words indeed ,although 'Bodger' might be more like it ;D

Hi all.

I got a bit of a start on the Spit . ;D

Cockpit parts mostly assembled ,the belts come supplied as decals in this kit ,so Im going to use them but i will cut them out on the backing paper to give a bit of thickness to them ,then paint them up a bit .I'll add them after painting the seat.

Fuselage dry fit ...looks pretty good .

Wings assembled .

Finally a dry fit of wings and fuselage ,the fit is good and only a little filler at the front and rear of the belly will be needed ,the root join is perfect :)

More soon.

I have this kit half built as well....(been sitting for awhile) and was actually going to do the Vic Cabas scheme as well....

I found that the kit went together very nicely, better than I had expected!

I almost missed this one.
I fell in love with RAFs tropical camo, it looks so good. Looking forward to see this built, count me in!

Cheers!

Nice looking Spitfire IX kit Chris. It seems each time you start a new kit, I want to add it to my stash.

Thanks guys ,nice to have you all along :) I havent been able to get into the spraybooth over the last few days ,hopefully Saturday .

Jason ....I have the same problem ;D

The Tamiya kit is nice. No fit issues at all. I don't know about the Hasegawa one because I've never built it but the cockpit in the Hase is a bit more complete than the Tamiya in my opinion.

I haven't seen Hasegawa kit, but this Tamiya, oh man, I would take it in a heartbeat but there are other options for spending money. I've seen a Levi's shirt ;D ;D ;D It is very nice - plaid and everything... [took out last part - someone might get offended even it wasn't my intention :) you never know]

Chris is going to kill me, i am destroying his topic ;D ;D ;D

Cheers!

Hi folks

Well ,the 109 is done an dusted ....time to get this little lady finished :)
I do apologize ,but I completely forgot to take pics of the cockpit before slapping the airframe together ....its only built out of the box anyhoo .
The whole airframe went together 'reasonably ' well ,but will require a smidgen of filler here and there (ICM spoilt me ! ) ,once joints are sanded and filled where needed ,there is only a few minor parts to add before paint :)
