That is my belief as well. Though usually I have a bit of time before it starts digging like that. I dunno. But I think painting those ares will look better anyhow.

Yeah. I didn't use the kit decals for those areas under the front of the bussards myself. They were too much of a light blue grey for me. I guess they were supposed to match the color on the front of the dorsal but I preferred a light to medium neutral grey myself so that's what I went with.

From what I have seen they appear to be slightly darker than the hull color. But I have recently found out the paints used to paint the 11 footer back in the 60s had a weird effect of appearing very different based on lighting and where the camera was positioned when the photos were taken.

I plan to use a medium grey and lighten it up if needed.

Well... the secondary hull is finally together. I wanted to get that done and over with before the break. The rear over the shuttlebay will need buttloads of filling, especially the very end of the overhang. It took ALOT OF PLANNING. And my GF had to help wrangle wires and help keep the bay door lined up.(due to the way I had to put the hull together and the wiring, I couldn't glue the door part in place till after the hull was together. The rear of the hull seems slightly smooshed vertically so you kind have to force it back into a circular shape by jockying the door piece into a groove in the inside, wedging it into the hull.)

Then I used the end piece with the guidance lights to make sure the door part was aligned right, then after tightly wrapping the main hull with tape to force the seams together I super glued the door part and end piece. Luckily even though I had to drip glue into the areas it wicked down into the right areas and there is no sign of it now. Whew.

Well... my break lasted about a day.

The secondary hull is finished. Just need to remove paint masks and attach the rear beacon

Now though I DO have to take a break till I get the replacement decals and stuff. So another week or two then it will get finished.

Well... got the replacement decals ordered, and should get em next weekend.

And...

Base has been rewired to final configuration and glued to baseplate, hull has partial final assembly. Might glue the saucer and dorsal on over the weekend, might wait till after warp nacelles are done and on. Dunno yet.

So as this build is creeping towards completion I ponder getting the 1/350 K'tinga. I WANT a in scale D-7 class, but I am not paying $300 for a resin kit(though it looks incredible). So my GF had what could be a crazy idea, but one that I can maybe, just maybe get behind: painting A K'tinga up like the D-7 and calling it a day. As she points out, the two ships are basically the same, other than detailing and the K'tinga being a few feet larger all around.

The D-7 shown in the remastered "The Trouble with Tribbles" episode even had paneling on it much like the K'T'Inga, just more subtle. If you were to sand the panels most of the way down on the big PL K'T'Inga kit it would be a fair representation of the remastered D-7. it would help if you reaaaaally liked sanding of course.

That was the idea I got after she made the suggestion. I HATE sanding, but when I need to do something I just do it. So that would be doable. After all, when I get around to a second one of this kit to make the Condor, the mods I need to make, and the sanding involved in all that, are ridiculous.

I think all the sanding I did on the big E's saucer, after filling the gridlines with putty, may have accelerated the growth of arthritis in my left hand. That was the hand that gripped the saucer halves as I sanded. Just the perils of being an older modeler I guess.

That is something I would have never done myself, though I understand why people hated the lines.

Unfortunately for me, I will be facing the opposite issue when I build the Condor, as I NEED a saucer with the gridlines and apparently they don't exist for the big kit any more. And I would rather not try to scribe them back in.

Decided to slap on the decals I already have to the nacelles. All I need is the replacement set for those grey panels underneath and final wiring and assembly can commence. Also glued the phaser turret to the bottom sensor dome. Was gonna super glue it but given a near disaster last night with the nacelles due to the bottle's nozzle splitting on me as I was putting some on the pylons( thankfully I caught it and got the crap cleaned up before any had set) I used MKK.

Ooh yeah you painted the deep circular grooves on the lower saucer rusty brown which is correct. I only found out myself about the brown grooves long after I had finished my built.
So mine are just the hull color with a mix of thinned down medium grey enamel brushed into them.

I think it looks weird, but I figured since I took artistic liscense with the nacelle endcaps and making the metallic areas on the impulse deck I should be as accurate as I could everywhere else. But I am going my own way when I make the Condor out of a second kit, going more TMP with it. Light gull grey base color and aztek paneling, along with rcs quads and deflector grids. And the blue lights on the inboard nacelle grilles.

At my girl's insistance I tucked the wires in and threw on the deflector.(She said it looked like it was gutted)

Its still not finished but DAMN looks great regardless.
