Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf C stuka fuss

Fubar, Spud and Panzerace,

thanks very much for your support and the link should prove to be very usefull when it comes to radio ;D

i think ill go with the diorama project, i spent a while last night going through possible kits to use for the crew, and was a little surprised to find so few sets in winter gear in the poses i need, so ill have to have a go at figure conversions ;)

more updates to follow

thats one thing about figures is ya never find them the way you have them in your head :)

Spud & Wyoroy, its true they make them in the poses you need, thanks for your support :)

BUILD UPDATE:

After committing to the diorama idea, there was a change i had to make the build, which could have caused me much bother. Not intending to display the 251 with figures i glued the rear hatches shut, which now meant i would have go back and open them which would be a delicate task to say the least, i manage to get on door open intact without much bother, but the remaining door refused to budge so i left it or risk snapping the bulkhead or the door.

P1100342.jpg

just have to do a few touch ups here and there, before i attach it to the main hull.
Also installing the final fittings into the lower hull starting with the driver and radio OP's seats along with the braket mounted MP40's

also been messing around with figures from the spares box trying to get an idea of what kind of poses im looking for, these proberly wont be the figures ill end up using but the poses will the benchmark for any future conversion work ill have to do in the future with the sets i aim to gather over time ill have some photos up of the layout tomorrow

cheers

exactly, in any case it will most likely work better the one door open

howdie all been doing a bit more with the dio element of this build :)

UPDATE

The fact that only hatch will be model open kinda fits into the scene im beginning to create in my head, it differs slightly from my first idea of the lads making camp in a farm house, i being to develop a much more desprate scene. Instead of the lads sheltering in a barn or house, im beginning to like the idea of the crew beginning caught in a snow storm in the open, and the rig up the only shelter they have by using the 251 as wind break and setting up a top cover or traplin from the 251 and tied down to a few wind swept trees.

I feel this is a far more harsh and desprate scene and gives a nice sense of drama and a chance to do a bit of heavy converisons on the figures to get them to match the scene. so far this is the rough layout, the figures but for two will swapped out for new ones in time.

from left to right,

1.the guy on the far left i may leave out as i dont think his pose fits in

2.the chap lying on ground is a figure im working on, ill have photos of him up once ive got something to show yee, the idea is he has been stoke down by the cold and will be wrapped in a blanket to keep him warmp

3. not shown (as i dont have a figure as yet) is the froozen guys buddy kneeling over him trying to keep him going

4. im working on the seated chap at the moment also, he'll be either trying to eat something out of mess tin, or huddled into himself trying to stay warm

5. Still unsure about the guy hacking the crates for a few reason, firstly i think is pose is to ridget and i do go for the wooded base he'd be more likely to start hacking the trees ? ???

this is still the early composition which keep refining till i get it right but do let me know what yee all think so far,

cheers

Really like the figures you have so, the guy stand could be an NCO giving out orders maybe and i like the guy chopping up the crates, if your low on energy and all you have is that small chopper but were desperate to start a fire i think i'd start by chopping up the crates....they'd be a much easier task than starting to hack at a frozen tree surely!!!!

Just a thought mate.

Keep up the great work.

TTFN Matt

Looking forward to seein this... You've thought about it which always makes for a good dio

LL ,

Very cool concept ! Although .. the Dude that is doin th chopping doesn't look that rigid. If you could put his other hand holding th crate , I think it would work .

Great Concept ! I'm lookin' forward to seein this !!

-Fubar,

cheers for input mate :) you do have a point about the crates, you woudnt firstly expose yourself to massive wind chill factors trying hack trough a froozen solid tree, secondly you'd wear yourself out trying to get through the tree, which id imagine would be a death sentance in the middle of snow storm

Wryoroy & Geegad,

thanks very much for your support gents ;D

Panzerace, glad you think that the axe man doesnt look unrealistic, ill see can i develop the posing more and get an approiate arm for him to be supporting the crate with his free hand

cheers lads

Howdie Gents,

firstly my exam yesterday went fine, which means back to modelling again, as it stands now the upper hull interior is goingi through it final weathering and ive begun to add to paint the items of stowage Ill have photo updates of which Ill up later tonight.

One thing Ive been thinking how best to do is realistic snow and ice, up on till now ive used to use baking soda but found this to lack the volume of snow. So does anyone know of a good way of getting realistic snow ?

cheers
