T34/76

SCOTT ,

WoW !! Cool Deal ma' Brotha' !! I Dig all of th weathering ! Spot-On !! Those Trax ... those Beautiful Trax !! Smokin' Job. I can't wait to see th White Wash !!

Thank you guys, very much. This is a ton of fun.

Just getting the first pot of coffee in me...but I have a quick question, actually 3.

1. The headlamp. How do you guys paint the lense...when there isn't a clear part?

2. The road wheels. One has rubber, the other doesn't. Would the wheels without rubber be worn down to bare steel along the outer circumference?

3. The engine deck vents/grill. The top one on the rear deck...should that have a dark grill...like full of soot? So hard to tell in old B&W pics....

Thanks again guys.

the Light is a tough one ild like to know that my self.

As for the wheels Rub them with some Ak Darksteel or a pencil any place wee the wheel would be running on the track.

The Engine Dec wouldnt be coved in soot thats what the exausts are for :)

have a look at panzeraces Whitman Tiger he does what i was sudjesting there for the wheels.

True about the exhausts....I guess soot was the wrong word.

Just thinking they should be dark or something other than the base coat green...

For the light, I'm thinking a grey/silver color to mimic the reflector and then several layers of Future to imitate the lens. ??

Well you don't, it will just look painted, you could try silver and future but... meh. I thought that was a clear lens covered in masking fluid...

was that a solid lump of plastic? If so I would have dremeled it out and made a clear lens from something, or just left it off with a bent bracket implying a missing light/battle damage etc.

I have these stickers I got at Michael's, they are a lot like aftermarket lenses you may see in model shops. They work great for this sort of thing, headlights... mirrors etc. You would would still have to remove some plastic to get them to seat properly though.

The area might be filthy with footprints, dirt/dust and spilled oil/fuel and such but not black sooty pigment if that's what your asking. You can use a dark wash in them to make them pop.

Cool. Thanks. No, it's not masked. Plastic crap kit lamp. I might have something like those sticker things around here...can check the $ store too.

Working out a test of making ice using Paraffin Wax...pretty easy and looks pretty cool. I'll put this tank on a road and have broken frozen puddles. Late spring tends to have a nice mix of Hey it's still winter...be cold! and Shut up! It's Spring...melt already.

oh yes now i remember you doing this on you tube. thanks ken,

scott sounding cool with the ice no pun intended there :)

If you can't find what you are looking for for headlights, I carry MV Lenses, and while I might not have the size in stock...I can get them from my supplier. Not much money, usually $1-$3 for a pair depending on size.

Of course if you can find that sheet that Ken has for a couple of bucks, it is worth it. Let me know if you do find it as it would be worth getting a sheet for myself as well.

Scott!

The two Road-wheel TYPES your T-34 has is quite normal! As Rubber became Scarce in Russia, All steel wheels were cheaper and easier to make! but Harder on Crew (Comfort) reason behind the Steel wheel "being taller" in diameter was to match the rubber wheel size "Still found" on some tanks and keep the same Suspension Geometry and so Missmatching either type was common!

Yours is a Variant of that! While Yanks were starting to supply the Russians with Syntetic Rubber.... The alternative solution was to put a set of the remaining rubber wheels on the front Axle and Rear Axle to ease Crew comfort till New Syntetic Rubber Road wheels were made Available in greater numbers..... Later during the War.... A return to full rubber road wheels started to be seen on later T-34's.......

The beauty of building Russian tanks. of course, some T-34 were photographed with only Rubber wheels or Steel road wheels ..... All depending on the time period or available stock or manufacturing plant!

Take care and....

Unbelievable results on your model! BTW. The paint job is to die for! Awesome!

SCOTT ,

I agree with SMMM , those Sticko bits are th Bizzle ! If you can't find them @ Michael's then you can go to their website - They also have different colors too !! that is if you wanna scatter some Skittles on th ground ! lol

http://sticko.eksuccessbrands.com/search.aspx?searchtext=Dots the Shimmering Silver dots are th ones for th Headlights. I have a few sheets in th stash plus you can clean up here on their site.

Also th Russian Armor is notorious for being a Filthy Tank ! Here's a Vid that I shot of a Local Guy, that owns a T-34. Just look at th Engine Grease build up around th Exhaust pipes !!!

Wow, lots of activity on the boards today! Thanks for the comments and replies.

This morning I added some paint chips to the turret. I also painted the barrel white. This is per the instructions for the specific markings I added. I airbrushed a very light grey white, then sponged pure white and painted the exposed steel same as the rest.

This afternoon, with a ton of help from Abrams, I started to weather the horizontal sections of the hull. In a nutshell, I added various AK Interactive FX products and then feathered the edges with their White Spirit. Between each go-round I'd dry the tank with a hair dryer and then repeat.

The goal is to add filth in areas that would collect filth. I will continue building up additional layers, but for now I'm taking a break. My wife mentioned something about dishes...
